Title:
Written ethics policies on euthanasia in hospitals and nursing homes in Flanders, Belgium. An empirical-ethical study of prevalence, content and effectiveness.
Project summary:
The aim of the project is to study and to gain deeper insight into the phenomenon of “Written ethics policies on euthanasia in Flanders”. The first part of the study describes the prevalence, development process, approval and dissemination of written ethics policies on euthanasia in general hospitals and nursing homes in Flanders. In the second part of the study, the format and content of written ethics euthanasia policy documents is analysed in a systematic way by means of a content analysis. In the third part, the impact of the written ethics policy on euthanasia as experienced by caregivers during the euthanasia care process is explored through in-depth interviews with physicians and nurses in three selected general hospitals.
