The Stem Cell Institute was created in November 2005 in recognition of the potential of stem cells for the treatment of genetic, degenerative, immunologic, hematologic and oncologic diseases.
The mission of the Stem Cell Institute is to develop a basic understanding of stem cell biology in health and disease and to translate this knowledge into innovative stem cell-based or stem-cell derived therapies. These therapies can be implemented through the well-established clinical programs at KULeuven.
