Social service
Who can contact the Social service?
All international students from KU Leuven, KHLeuven, Group T and the Lemmens Institute. The partners of international students are also welcome to contact our service.
What can you contact the Social service about?
The Social service wants to be a “steppingstone” where you can ask any question of a practical, legal or financial nature.
-
Information
We provide information concerning legal, financial or practical matters. For instance: residence status, social security, child care, schools, child allowance, accidents, loans, health insurance, accident insurance.
-
Mediation
When you receive letters or bills from tax authorities, health insurance, the court, the city of Leuven, your electricity company,… It is important that you react appropriately. If you want some help, you may contact the social service for advice and support.
-
For a sympathetic ear
You can come and discuss your personal troubles with one of the Social Service’s social assistants. They are your first point of contact and will refer you to another service if necessary.
-
Financial Help
Sometimes the social service can provide financial support. However, we cannot cover your life and study costs.
According to the law, you are obliged to meet your own financial needs during your studies in Belgium. However, if you face an unexpected and temporary problem, we can offer you some support.
You are always welcome to come and discuss your question at the social service. We will then focus on your situation and explain our conditions.
