What does the ombudsperson do?

The ombudsperson plays a key role in the whole of the examinations. The general examination regulations fully describe his/her position. The ombudsperson’s task is to function as an independent mediator between examiners and students.

  • He/she is involved with the examinations from the very beginning of the organisation of the exams.
  • He/she decides independently if and on which conditions a student is allowed to reschedule an examination (permission to postpone). According to the general examination regulations, exams can only be rescheduled due to very serious reasons within the same exam period.
  • He/she also registers absences if you stop the exams you have registered or enrolled for.
  • He/she takes part in deliberations, but does so without the right to vote. In case of a conflict between a student and an examiner, he/she will be the mediator.
The exam schedule mentions the ombudsperson’s name, his/her office hours and where he/she can be found. It is a good idea to write down this information in case you need to see the ombudsperson urgently.
