News from Romania August 2001 (pdf format) January 2001 (pdf format) After 1990, based on a grater opening of democracy, the Roumanian Federation of Sport for Disabled People (FRSPH), came into being within the Ministry of Youth and Sport. Professor dr. Vasile Marcu has been the vicepresident of FRSPH. Starting 1992 have been set up in Romania, Physiotherapy Faculties whose graduates are trained to rehabilitate and educate disabled people. Today we consider that adapted physical activity is situated somewhere between Physical Education and Physiotherapy when it comes to profession. In 1999, in May at Pitesti and July in Bucharest, students training modalities and the one regarding APA were analized by the meeting of the PE Faculties Deans and Heads of PT Departments, and THENAPA programme helped us a lot. Within the national protection strategie of child rights, APA specialist training is very important and THENAPA helps us once again. On the ocassion of the jubiliar session of the West University of Timisoara, on 17th November 2000, our specialists debated APA specific issues and professionals from Moldavia, Romania and France also lectured. As a result of our sustained work will came into being in Bucharest a Trainer Scool for Disabled People within the National School for Trainers, part of the Research Sport Center. APA issues where discussed to one of the Federal Buro of FRSPH meeting and then were made known all over the country. As a result, the Foundation of Sport for Persons with Special Needs was initiated by a group of students and teaching staff of Oradea University. Pedagogical College for Special Education, training special theachers for people with special needs, was developed as a result of collaboration project of University of Oradea and KHATO Institute from Kortryk Belgium. APA related problems are contained in Pedagogical College for Special Education curriculum. The work of three member team participating in THENAPA sessions proves the special interes we have in promoting APA in Romania.Beginning with 2001-2002 university year, will function in University of Oradea, Physical Education and Physiotherapy Faculty, a three semesters master programme dealing adapted physical activity. A new project started in co-operation with FRSH, FRAK and the University of Oradea. This project will start this autumn and it refers to the training of specialists in the field of special education in the direction of the THENAPA principles. Vasile Marcu
