“ADAPT CD-ROM” week in Ireland. |
|
The
THENAPA key-person for Ireland Teresa Leahy in collaboration with
the THENAPA co-ordinating team has organised an “ADAPT CD-ROM”
promotional week in Ireland from 7th to 11th of June 2004. 7 presentations
were performed in Limerick (University of Limerick, Lisnagry and
Bawnmore), Thralee (Institute of Technologies Thralee) and Cork
(COPE). Thanks to the excellent organisational work of the national
co-ordinator more than 600 copies are already distributed to the
higher education institutions, Foundations and residential institutions,
in which the adapted physical activity is part of the education
or part of the rehabilitation and integration process.

ADAPT CD-ROM – a step forward for developing a common
European curriculum in Adapted Physical Activity. |
|
The
THENAPA co-ordinating team in collaboration with the Norwegian THENAPA
network presented ADAPT CD-ROM at the 20th World Congress of Rehabilitation
International, organised from 21st to 24th of June 2004 in Oslo,
Norway. The session was highly attended and great interest was expressed
from participants from Africa and the Far East. During the conference,
a regional meeting which was attended by the THENAPA national representatives
from the Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland)
was organised.
The aim of the academic programme of the congress was an ambitious
one. The organisers wanted to stimulate the participants to exchange
ideas and practices, to provide new perspectives and concepts, which
enables to discuss and further develop the rehabilitation field
long after the closing of the World Congress.
Whether we live and work in industrial countries or developing countries
- whether we are involved in rehabilitation as users, practitioners,
researchers or politicians - we all need to reflect upon and critically
consider our theories and methods.
Herman
Van Coppenolle, co-ordinator of THENAPA, had the unique chance this
year to be invited at the ceremony of the conferment of the title
of Doctor Honoris Causa on Jacques Rogge – the President of
the International Olympic Committee. The ceremony took place in
Warsaw, Poland on 31st of May 2004. Except the ceremony itself,
many meetings and discussions were planned during the 3 days, that
the organisers foreseen for the event. Prof. Dr. Van Coppenolle
had the opportunity to meet personally Jacques Rogge and to present
him shortly the CD-ROM ADAPT. He also organised a brief presentation
of the CD-ROM on a group discussion, where the Rector of the Warsaw
Academy of Physical Education – Andrej Wit and many other
Professors from that Academy, were present.

Krakow,
Poland hosted this year the workshop of the Coimbra Group in the
period 4th - 5th June 2004. The meeting “Taskforce Central
and Eastern European Countries” was called in order to discuss
the new possibilities within the University exchange programs from
the “old” and the “new” EU members. Prof.
Dr. Herman Van Coppenolle attended this workshop. Together with
representatives from different European Universities, he organised
a discussion, covering the implementation of the common European
Curriculum in Adapted Physical Activity (APA) in the higher education
structure mainly within the Central and the Eastern European countries.
The discussion covered mainly the THENAPA report on Vocational training
in APA. The ADAPT CD-ROM was presented as well as a joint part of
that report.
