The Bachelor’s
Are you keenly aware of the importance of religion in your culture’s history and do you have an interest in religious attitudes, customs and traditions? Do religious buildings move you? Do the rituals they house awaken you to life’s greater mysteries? And what about religious traditions besides your own – do they too inspire your wonder? If so, consider the Bachelor of Theology and Religious Studies. This programme will deepen your initial familiarity with the Christian tradition and the history of the Church and expand your understanding of the diverse set of ideas, customs and events that have shaped contemporary Christianity. The programme’s required courses in modern and Biblical languages, philosophy and other human sciences will push you to question ideas you take for granted. My profile
In addition to the general prerequisites for study at KU Leuven and the admission requirements specific to the faculty, the following are important traits for success in the programme:
- an awareness of history (the ability to relate pieces of concrete historical information with one another and locate them along a temporal line)
- interest in religious attitudes, customs and traditions; awareness of religious buildings, rituals and manifestations in one's own environment and outside it (e.g. while travelling)
- an initial familiarity with the Christian tradition and the history of the church (familiarity with the basic vocabulary of the Christian tradition including terms such as 'prophet', 'bible', Jesus of Nazareth)
- the capacity to summarise and apply abstract insights and schematic presentations (the ability to distinguish between doctrines, rituals and practices)
