KU Leuven staff commute survey 2011

The federal government requires all companies to submit a comprehensive report about the commute information of their staff. KU Leuven staff can enter their commute data in their personal digital file in K.U.Loket. Below you can find the main results for 2011. If you would like more information, please contact Mobility Coordinator Jan Paesen.

1. Primary means of transport

Compared with the averages for the Flemish Region, KU Leuven staff commutes significantly less by car and more by bike and train.

Amongst KU Leuven staff the use of bike and train increases and the use of the car shows a downward tendency.

2. Average distance

Long distances are mainly made by train.

For distances between 20 and 30 km, the staff uses the car and moped/motorcycle.

3. By gender

What is striking is that more men use the moped / motorcycle; and women take more the bus.

4. By campus

Staff members who work in Leuven Centre commute more by train, which can be explained by the presence of Leuven station in the city centre.

Staff members who work at Campus Gasthuisberg, Campus Heverlee and Campus Kulak (Kortrijk) commute more by car.
