A crisis often comes unexpected. Swift action in such situations can make the difference between life and death. Thanks to this emergency fund, we can respond immediately and provide assistance when and where needed.
Today, war-torn Ukraine demands our attention. The images of the Russian invasion have not left anyone unmoved. The world is speaking out against this horrific military display of power. KU Leuven also joins in. We express our solidarity with the affected residents and everyone who is a victim of such senseless violence.
We want to be a strong ally in this conflict. To offer a safe haven to Ukrainian students and researchers. We also reach out to our Russian colleagues and students in a spirit of peace, openness and academic solidarity. They too are victims and do not choose war against their neighbours.
With the additional resources from the emergency fund, we offer accommodation to Ukrainian students and scientists who are looking for shelter. Or we can extend the stay of those who already work or study at KU Leuven.
The university is providing the starting capital. The various faculties and departments are also making a substantial contribution. But the fight is not over yet. We need your help. Make a donation today and support the people of Ukraine.
"As a university that, in the past century, saw its library go up in flames twice as a result of war violence, we understand the long-lasting and enormous impact a war of this magnitude may have. We were able to count on a great deal of solidarity in the reconstruction process. Now it is our turn to show solidarity, just as we try to do in other war situations.
