The aim of the PhD project is to study the recovery of valuable metals neodymium, dysprosium and cobalt from NdFeB magnets and of samarium, cobalt and copper from SmCo magnets, in both cases avoiding the co-dissolution of iron. Applications of water-free ionic liquids will be tested above 100 °C (and below their decomposition temperatures) at atmospheric pressure. Combined pyro- and solvometallurgical processes will be studied as well.
